The Susquehanna County Historical Society and Free Library Association maintain their main library in Montrose, and support branches in Susquehanna, Hallstead, and Forest City. The library system is part of ACCESS PENNSYLVANIA and can request books from any public library in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The library's outreach department delivers books to shut-ins and, in some more remote locations, by mail or bookmobile. The library offers a summer reading program and Story Hour for preschoolers during the school year. The library sponsors the Blueberry Festival the first Friday and Saturday of August.

The Pratt Memorial Library in New Milford was built in 1903 by Charles Pratt as a memorial to his parents. The library was donated to the community in 1922. The library is open Monday from 2 p.m.-5 p.m., Wednesday from 2 p.m.-7 p.m., Friday from 6:30-8:30 p.m., and Saturday from 2 p.m.-5 p.m. The library offers a summertime Story Hour, please call the library for days and times.  Phone: (570) 465-3098
