Susquehanna County Bail Information

Bail on cases in the Susquehanna County Common Pleas Court must be paid at the Clerk of Courts office in the Susquehanna County Courthouse in Montrose, Pennsylvania. Acceptable forms of payment include:

  • Cash
  • Money order
  • Certified check (from bank)
  • Real Estate (must be submitted by attorney with all required information)
  • Bail bond (by a professional bail bondsman)

All bail will be subject to a poundage fee and will be returned 30-50 days after sentencing.

OPTION #1. SURETY OTHER THAN DEFENDANT

As per PA R.Cr.P. Rule 535(b)(d), if you agree to act as the SURETY and sign the bail bond with the defendant, you will be liable for the full amount of bail set if the defendant fails to appear or comply. After the full and final disposition (30 days after the date of sentencing), a bail refund will be made to the surety within 20 days, less the $40.00 (non-refundable) poundage due to Prothonotary, as per Local Rule, Criminal Division dated April 1, 1992.

OPTION #2. DEPOSIT MONEY FOR DEFENDANT TO POST

If you do not wish to be liable for the full amount of bail, you will be permitted to deposit money for the defendant to post, and will relinquish the right to make a subsequent claim for the return of the money. In this case, the defendant would be deemed the depositor (Surety), and only the defendant would sign the bond and be liable for the full amount of bail, if the defendant fails to appear or comply. After the full and final disposition (30 days after the date of sentencing), a bail refund will be given to the defendant (Surety) within 20 days, less the $40.00 (non-refundable) poundage due to Prothonotary, as per Local Rule, Criminal Division.
