Course Descriptions
Pump Operations I
- Age 18 and Up
- This course provides the fire fighter with an introduction to basic pump construction and theory as well as operating techniques. Emphasis is placed on getting water to the pump, getting water from the pump for hose streams, and prevention of common mistakes in pump operations.
AWR-147
- AWR 147 is an 8-hour, DHS/FEMA-certified, tuition-free, awareness-level course developed to educate rural emergency responders on freight rail car incidents involving hazardous materials. Because most freight rail traffic traverses rural areas, it is imperative that rural responders, especially those in resource limited areas, understand the dangers and other unique hazards these incidents present. Safeguards are commonly implemented to prevent hazardous materials from causing harm under normal transportation, storage, handling, and use. If any of these safeguards are circumvented, there is potential for great harm. Upon completion of this course, participants will be better prepared to respond to a freight rail car incident without endangering the health and safety of responders
Rural Fireground Water Movement
- Age 16 and up
- This course instructs the student in the basic methods of water movement in the rural area for firefighting. Tank trucks and large diameter hose are utilized. Safe, efficient and recommended methods are discussed, demonstrated, and practiced.
MGT-415
- MGT 415 is a DHS/FEMA-certified, tuition-free, 8-hour planning and management-level course designed for public officials, community leaders, and private-sector representatives in rural communities who play key roles in the disaster recovery process. The course assists rural communities with effective and efficient implementation of recovery efforts, thus ensuring the best possible long-term social and economic recovery of their communities from disaster.
